GMA Network Excellence Award widens its reach

The GMA Network Excellence Award, GMA Network’s CSR program that recognizes students who demonstrate outstanding leadership skills, stellar academic performance and social responsibility, now extends its scope nationwide.
 
Previously, nominations for the award were open to graduating students of University of the Philippines-Diliman College of Mass Communication, Cebu and Mindanao campuses, Don Bosco Technical College and Angeles University Foundation. Now on its fourteen year, any bona fide Filipino graduating student of Electronics and Communications Engineering, Mass Communication, Multimedia Arts, Advertising or any equivalent course focusing on communication is eligible for the award.
 
GMA Network is now accepting nominees for the GMA Network Excellence Award. Only one will be honored as GMA Network Excellence Awardee, with a cash prize of P50,000 and a plaque. Six finalists will also be chosen to win P5,000 and a plaque, each.

In line with GMA Network’s corporate value of passion for excellence
 
For GMA Network Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon, this initiative is designed to imbibe the value of excellence among students and ultimately, help the country.
 
“We have always supported [our] students for them to finish their courses. [Maganda na] makatulong tayo dun [so they can also] be better citizens to help our country. Mga piling-pili ‘yang mga estudyanteng ‘yan,” he said.
 
Several finalists and recipients of the program over the years now work with GMA Network in various capacities.
 
“Karamihan [sa kanila] kinukuha natin dito sa GMA at nakakatulong sa atin… We need good people in the media with integrity. Not only intelligence but more so with integrity,” he added.
 
Helping Filipino students together
 
This year, GMA Network partnered with YesPinoy Foundation, Airfreight 2001, Inc. (Air 21), University of the Philippines-Diliman College of Mass Communication, Don Bosco Technical College and Angeles University Foundation to select finalists. A MOA signing among the top officials of the partner-institutions formalized the partnership.
 
Don Bosco Technical College Director of Placement Office Engr. Emmanuel Averilla has seen the positive impact of the GMA Network Excellence Award among students.
 
“Yung mga estudyante natin, [naging] motivated saka talagang na-inspire sila to work for something special… Binibigyan [ng award na ito] ng emphasis yung skills ng ating kabataan,” he said.
 
Improving the broadcast industry
 
For Dean Tolentino of University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication, the GMA Network Excellence Award complements their vision for their students.
 
“It’s a prestigious award that enhances the capacity to be able to maneuver through the industry. ‘Yun naman ang intention ng programs namin, [na] magkaroon ng interface between academe and industry na tatahakin nila,” he said.
 
As part of this year’s panel of judges, he said that he’s looking for someone who is determined to become a responsible member of the media industry.
 
“Hinahanap natin ‘yung capacity ng estudyante na mag-persevere towards greater excellence sa broadcasting field and eventually [we hope that through] these kinds of benchmarks ay ma-improve nila ang kabuuang mukha at substansya ng broadcasting sa bansa,” he added.
