In "Paano ba ang Mangarap?," Maya will do just about anything para makuha ang pag-ibig ni Erick -- and Chynna Ortaleza will do everything para magampanan ito ng tama. Text and Photos by Jason John S. Lim.
Chynna Ortaleza is one of today's generation of actresses na hindi takot mag-experiment sa kanyang roles. And she has proven in Paano ba ang Mangarap? that she can play one heck of a kontrabida!
"'Yun talaga yung goal ko from the time na pumasok ako sa showbiz," Chynna tells iGMA during a set visit sa kanyang afternoon soap. "Talagang sinabi ko, na kahit 18 [years old] pa lang ako noon, na I'd be happy if they give me character roles."
From Fran of Codename: Asero to Mabelle of Pati ba Pintig ng Puso?, talaga namang ipinakikita ni Chynna that she's willing to do any role as long as it challenges her. "Tao ako na mahilig sa challenge. Siguro, dahil doon, nakikita nilang pursigido ako. Nandoon 'yung passion ko, kaya nabibigyan nila ako ng magagandang role."
With Paano ba ang Mangarap? now on its finale week, Chynna says she has heard na may next project na siya. Pero as of now, wala pa siyang balita kung bida siya or kontrabida. "Whatever it is that they give me, they'll give me naman ample time to prepare for it," she says, completely assured na moving forward lagi ang career niya sa bawat role na binibigay sa kanya ng network.
Gaya na lang ni Maya.
After playing Rebecca, the vixen bida-kontrabida of Sugo, unti-unti nang lume-level pataas ang bawat kontrabida role na ginagampanan ni Chynna. In fact, dito sa Paano ba ang Mangarap? mas kontrabida pa siya compared sa character ni Bing Loyzaga! Paano? You'll just have to keep watching hanggang sa end ng Dramarama series na ito.
Relating to Maya
In the meantime, Chynna gives us an insight to what helps her sa pagbuo ng character niya.
"Nag-suggest ako sa production." Chynna tells us na para makita talaga ang character ni Maya, at ang bawat change na pinagdadaanan nito, she asked the production na ipakita rin through her hair and her clothes ang bawat development ni Maya. Like right now, "may tinatago [si Maya] e, ayaw [na] niyang ipakita 'yung original self niya. So therefore, [iba] 'yung wardrobe niya, medyo laging naka-sleeveless." And don’t forget the longer hair!
"The wig is part of my character," Chynna explains, saying the longer hair is just another symbolism sa pagbabago ni Maya. "She presents herself as a completely different person. She's healed but she's scorned."
For Chynna, kahit kontrabida ang dating ni Maya, she knows that people can still relate to her. "All her actions are brought about by the fact that she loves Erick—and maraming makaka-relate diyan." She continues, "I'm sure a lot of viewers have fallen in love and have gone completely nuts because they were not thinking straight pagdating sa love. That's what my character represents."
And with Maya and Lissa (Jennylyn Mercado's character) now in one house, viewers are sure to expect a lot more fireworks between the two—lalo pa't finale week na.
"Nagtatagisan kami dito e. The beauty of Lissa's character, hindi siya 'yung talunan. Maganda 'yung dynamic nung kontrabida and bida sa show na 'to." Dagdag pa ni Chynna, "Matutuwa 'yung mga tao dahil ang ganda-ganda nung pagka-develop ng lahat ng characters. Buong-buo ang development ng characters namin—that's what I'm very proud of."
And with the end of Paano ba ang Mangarap? dawning upon them, ready na si Chynna to miss the friends she has made over the course of the show. "I know I'm still gonna see them, but it's different when you work with them." Sabi nga ni Chynna, she has learned so much daw sa mga kasama niya, lalo na kina Bing Loyzaga, Jim Pebangco, Dang Cruz and Tirso Cruz III, to mention a few names. "In the process of being in this soap, they have also taught us a lot of things."
Siyempre, she is also proud and happy with the production team. "They're a really easy-going group and they really take care of us. And, of course, [there’s] Direk Joel Lamangan. It's so different working with an ace director, and if there's one thing that I can be proud of, is that I've already worked with him and he has taught us a lot."
