The excitement is undeniable. Cheers and hordes of supporters came to root for their favorite school as students from Manila and the provinces vied for the championship title  in the monthly finals of Kusina Master’s Collegiate Cooking Challenge.

Culinary schools from Manila and as far as Cagayan de Oro and Nueva Vizcaya previously competed in the weekly elimination rounds last month but only four schools qualified for the riveting weeklong final round that began today, May 27, 2013. Colorful and competitive students from MOST Institute of Culinary Arts - Quezon City, De La Salle University - Dasmarinas, Colegio de San Juan de Letran – Manila and Lyceum of the Philippines University – Laguna will compete in a market basket competition which will oblige our students to create a surprise dish surrounding a ‘mystery pinamalengke’ that is announced only on the day of the competition.

What’s even more stirring is the anxiety building among and between the teams. In this final round, tears have been shed, glasses fell and crashed while on roll and the show’s master, Chef Boy Logro, have become emotionally charged with the outcome of the students’ executions. Logro, the country’s Master Chef, revealed his not-so-tender side when weighing up his thoughts on the dishes and how our contenders executed their gastronomic inventions.

The students are also multi-colored as they are talented. The feisty Cindy Ledesma of Lyceum of the Philippines University – Laguna proved that she did not just have the spunk to cook a rarity but can also lead with passion, even with interesting outbursts of frustration, along with partner John Carlo Palacol. The shy and beautiful Yel Atienza of De La Salle University – Dasmarinas demonstrated her skill in precision throughout the finals. Simoun Baltazar of Colegio de San Juan de Letran and JM Avelo of MOST Institute also substantiated the fact that men in the kitchen rules!

Which school will bring home the champion bacon? ABANGAN!
