People magazine has named Black Panther actor Michael B. Jordan as the "Sexiest Man Alive" in 2020.
Jordan, 33, said that the honor gave him “a cool feeling” and that “it's a good club to be part of.”
This is the third year in a row that a Black celebrity was given the yearly pop culture title.
English actor Idris Elba was given the distinction in 2018 followed by singer-songwriter John Legend in 2019.
Jordan started his career as a young commercial model before embarking on an acting career starting in 1999 with brief appearances in the TV series Cosby and The Sopranos.
He would go on to appear in the movies Black and White, Hardball, Blackout, and Pastor Brown, among others.
Jordan caught the attention of critics with his role as a shooting victim in Fruitvale Station released in 2012.
His acting career though would take off after his lead role performance as boxer Adonis “Donnie” Creed in the Rocky sequel, Creed, in 2015.
But the movie that gained Jordan a massive audience was his villain role as Erik Killmonger in Marvel's superhero film, Black Panther, top-billed by the late Chadwick Boseman.
He is an avid supporter of diversity in the movie industry and calls for more Black and anti-racist stories in Hollywood.
Being named as People's "Sexiest Man Alive" means appearing on the magazine's cover, something that gives Jordan great pride.
“When my grandmother was alive, it was something that she collected, and then my mom naturally reads it a lot and my aunts as well. This is one that they're definitely going to have a special place for,” the actor said.
First introduced by People in 1985, the "Sexiest Man Alive" title has become a yardstick of male attractiveness in celebrities.
Past recipients include Mel Gibson, John F. Kennedy Jr., Sean Connery, Tom Cruise, Keanu Reeves, Brad Pitt, Pierce Brosnan, George Clooney, Johnny Depp, David Beckham, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
