Benjamin Alves

As GMA-7’s newest leading man, 23-year old Benjamin Alves has a lot to prove when it comes to acting.  But that will not stop him from making it big in the industry; after all, he just graduated summa cum laude from the University of Guam with an English Literature degree.  The former commercial model is currently part of Party Pilipinas and will star opposite Lovi Poe in Regal Films’ Guni Guni.

Why did you decide to enter showbiz? “It was too good to pass up. I mean, I was blessed by Ms. Annette and Ms. Lilybeth, they gave me a contract that was guaranteed, and also to Jonas for discovering me.  It’s a blessing and it’s hard to refuse a blessing like that.”

Claim to fame: “I’m a summa cum laude graduate. I’m a host in Party Pilipinas and I have a soap coming up in August and I heard it’s going to be big.”

What is your biggest regret? “Siguro not finishing school right away when I graduated high school.”

What are you most proud of? “I finished college in two years as summa cum laude.”

What is one thing you cannot live without? “I can’t live without books and movies. And I can’t live without my laptop.”

Who is your role model? “My parents maybe, my family.  You really have to give it to them for being mature.”

What were the toughest challenges for you? “Trying to get sleep. It’s so hard to find sleep this time.  I try to fall sleep on the set, ang hirap. That, and also living alone. It’s really tough because I’m a mama’s boy so being away from my mom is a hard adjustment.”

Three words to describe yourself. “Smart, spontaneous, charming”

What is your most unforgettable childhood memory? “For acting purposes, the biggest moment for me is when I played Jesus in my Grade 2 play. And I did Mark Antony’s monologue for Julius Caesar in Grade 6.”

What are your fears? “The dark. I don’t like sleeping in the dark, I have to have a light on. The only time I turn it off is when I’m going to actually fall asleep. Also ghosts, like when you take a picture and you see those lights? That scares the heck out of me.”

Favorites:

Hobbies: “I play basketball a lot, I’m getting into boxing. I love watching films, reading, writing, and eating.”

Actor/Actress: “My favorite actor will have to be Tom Hanks. He’s probably one of the reasons why I want to go into acting.“

Sports: “Basketball. I play with Enzo and Steven, and also the Maneuvers. And I’m getting into boxing to relieve stress. When you do heavy scenes, kailangan ma-release ang stress na yun. And I do a lot of running.”

Music: “I grew up in the 90s so I’m a very 90s person. Alternative, boyband, R&B hiphop also.”

Color: Black, white, red, baby blue

Shows: “I don’t watch a lot of TV but when I do it’s usually NBA, Walking Dead. I’ve always watched Party P at home in Guam. They also used to play week-long shows of Legacy so I watch that before Party P.”

Movies:  Big, Forrest Gump, Half Nelson, Primal Fear
