"Merong nagpapakita talaga" - Kevin Santos on shooting 'Basement'

Kevin Santos calmly shared that he felt unusual things during the shoot of the horror movie Basement.”Habang ginagawa namin yung movie, nakakita po ako ng ghost. Meron akong nakita… Merong nagpapakita talaga,” he said.

The actor remained very composed and just casually shared what he saw and felt with some of the crew members. “ Hindi ko na lang in-overreact. Sinabi ko sa ibang staff na meron talagang nagpapakita,” he added.

He described the appearances as vague and intermittent. “Ginagawa niya lumalapit siya, nawawala, lumalapit, nawawala,” the StarStruck alumnus said.

Also, instead of panicking, he used this to his advantage and infused the fear, shock and frightfulness in his acting . “Yung nakikita ko, sinasama ko na lang (yung feeling) sa movie. Kung paano ako matakot, ginagaya ko na lang sa movie,” he shared.

Although the movie's genre is suspense/horror, he said that he had fun while shooting the film. Kevin played the role of Mang Mario, a truck driver who’s assigned to deliver goods to the supermarket whose basement they will be trapped in. He described his character as “medyo salbahe pero funny.”

Kevin also revealed that comedian Betong was his working partner in Basement, adding both fun and comic relief in the movie, on and off cameras.

What sets Basement apart from other horror films? “Usually, sa nangyayari sa ‘tin, ang manananggal nasa province. Ngayon, 'yung manananggal nasa basement. ‘Di lang basta papatay siya. Itong movie na ‘to, survival movie,” he said.

Also, he commended their director Topel Lee for the uniqueness of this horror film. “Si direk, iba-iba po kasi 'yung concepts niya sa movies eh. Simpleng simple lang 'yung concept and 'yung location (nito), pero maraming nangyayari.”

Basement opens today in theaters nationwide.
