Ken Chan gives anti-cyberbullying talk in iBlog: The 12th Philippine Blogging SummitSep 16, 2016 04:42 pm
Kapuso leading man Ken Chan represented GMA Network’s Heart Over Hate campaign in iBlog: The 12th Philippine Blogging Summit themed ‘Data Privacy, Cybercrime, Libel and Legal Concerns: Its Impact on Bloggers, New Media Publishers, and Social Media Users.’
He served as one of the resource speakers in the symposium held at the Malcolm Theatre, UP College of Law, UP Diliman. He considered it a privilege to speak in front of students, professors and online influencers.
“Sobrang nakaka-fulfill na ma-share mo 'yung pinagdaanan mo na hirap… Nakakatuwa din na natuwa sila sa sinabi ko and masarap din sa feeling na naka-inspire ka,” he said.
First a victim of online bashing at age seventeen, Ken wants to help promote online positivity by using his influence as an artist and endorser wisely.
“Napaka-useful kasi ng internet ngayon and I think mas madaling outlet 'yun para mai-spread natin 'yung ganitong klaseng advocacy [against] cyberbullying. For me, gusto kong mag-inspire ng mga tao at mahawakan yung puso nila [by] never posting negative things,” he shared.
For him, maintaining such online image to his followers that number over half a million is the least he can do to reject the culture of hate that has become rampant online.
“Gusto ko positive para mahawaan at ma-inspire sila, at maimpluwensyahan ko sila sa magandang pamamaraan in my own little way,” he added.
As a millennial and as an artist, he couldn’t find the Heart Over Hate campaign more timely and relevant now. He’s glad to take part in the campaign and to be an instrument in sharing his testimony to others.
“Buti na lang nagkaroon 'yung GMA ng ganitong klaseng campaign na napakahalaga at [masaya ako na] nakasama ako doon. Mas lumalim 'yung kaalaman ko about cyberbullying at alam ko kung ano yung dapat kong gawin [para] makatulong sa mga [nagiging] biktima [nito],” he concluded.
