Even after thirty years in the business, The Company remains to be one of the biggest names in the Philippine music scene.

Three of its members Moy Ortiz, Sweet Plantado and OJ Mariano are set to become the vocal coaches of the trainees of To The Top, the first multi-platform boy band competition in the country.

Moy, who serves as the artistic director, musical director, composer and vocal arranger of the country’s premier vocal group, gives pieces of advice to the young boy band aspirants who want to etch their names in the music industry. Perhaps these are the same secrets that The Company has learned and practiced over the years, contributing to their continued passion and longevity.

First, he tells them not to merely rely on their God-given skill. To make it in any industry, educating one’s self is necessary. “It’s very easy and cheap [to learn] now. Just go on YouTube [or] just Google. The world is at your fingertips, literally. Open your eyes, your mind and your heart to what’s available out there,” he advised.

He also emphasized the importance of going beyond comfort zones. “You must be willing, not only to go the extra mile, but the extra interstate travel,” he said. He likened great work to an iceberg. “The iceberg is the show. But 'yung sa ilalim, 'yung sa dagat na hindi nakikita ng tao, all of that, that’s the rehearsals and the work required to come up with magic in the show,” he added.

Additionally, he reveals the importance of being honest to themselves. “If it doesn’t feel right for you, if it doesn’t feel like a good fit for you, listen to that inner voice because most of the time, that inner voice is correct,” he shared.

That considered, Moy hopes that the boys will be able to recognize what will help them and be open to change in case things don’t go as planned. “You also must be willing, whether it’s a career or life choice, to be flexible enough to make compromises. You cannot be so rigid. Those are the things that I wanna tell them,” he concluded.
