GMA Pinoy TV: Cheers to 11 years

GMA Pinoy TV has once again remained true to its promise of bringing Filipinos abroad closer to home as it capped off its 11th year in 2016.

With the passing of another year, the support of Kapuso audiences worldwide has grown even stronger for GMA’s flagship international channel as demonstrated by the undeniable success of its various projects and events all across the world.

In association with various Filipino organizations overseas, GMA Pinoy TV held jam-packed concerts, Filipino festivals, Philippine Independence Day celebrations, and community events in key cities abroad.

Kick-starting another eventful year was none other than Pambansang Bae Alden Richards who delighted Kapuso fans in the Middle East with back-to-back shows last January 7 and 8. He had two solo concerts -“Alden Live in Dubai” presented by MJP Marketing and Events FZ LLE and “Yaya’s Bae Goes to Qatar” produced by Multichannel Marketing Services. The Kapuso star also took time off to see popular attractions in Dubai.

The matinee idol then embarked on another series of events in the month of March. He was back in the United Arab Emirates for “Kapusong Pinoy Dubai” joined by Bubble Gang mainstay Betong Sumaya and Rock ‘N Soul Diva Aicelle Santos. He then flew to Canada with Kapuso heartthrob Rocco Nacino as they performed for “Bae in the City Canada Tour 2016” along with comedian Kim Idol last March 22 to 24. The tour was staged in partnership with Corazon’s Money Express (Winnipeg), Palabok Promotions (Edmonton), and Red Productions (New Westminster).

Simultaneously, the funny lolas from Eat Bulaga’s phenomenal Kalyeserye also had a series of concerts in three US cities titled “Lolas of Kalyeserye visit California!” It was the first time that the Lolas – made up of Jose Manalo (Lola Tinidora), Wally Bayola (Lola Nidora), and Paolo Ballesteros (Lola Tidora)—headlined their own international show. Joining the trio were Barbie Forteza, Andre Paras, with the special participation of Philippine Comedy Queen Ai-Ai delas Alas. The concert was produced in cooperation with Happy Box Productions.

Another big surprise for Kapuso fans in the US was the comeback tour of Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez-Alcasid titled “Timeless: The USA Concert Tour 2016” staged by Starmedia Entertainment. The event series was held in Chicago, New Jersey, San Diego, and Pasadena last May. The OPM royalty was overwhelmed by the warmth and outpouring of support she received and felt like she was never away.

For Filipinos abroad, showcasing Filipino culture and heritage was even more meaningful during the Philippine Independence Day celebrations with GMA Pinoy TV at the heart of these community events held in various cities around the world.

Gracing the launch of the Philippine Independence Day celebration in Kuwait, Kapuso actress and 2013 Miss World Megan Young attended “Kalayaan sa Kuwait” organized by Filcom and the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait where she was warmly welcomed by her kababayans. The Alyas Robinhood leading lady then flew to the other side of the world for another celebration in Carson City, California hosted by the Philippine Independence Day Foundation of Carson.

Also in the Middle East, Kapuso Premier Actress Lovi Poe bannered the “118th Philippine Independence Day in Dubai” which was staged in partnership with the Philippine Independence Day Celebration Organizing Committee and Philippine Consular Office Dubai last June 3. On the same day, another Alyas Robin Hood lead star Andrea Torres was in Qatar for “Kalinangan 2016”, an event spearheaded by the United Filipino Organizations Qatar, in coordination with the Embassy of the Philippines in Doha.

Continuing the celebration over in Canada, the tandem of Kapuso leading man Tom Rodriguez and comedian Betong Sumaya kept audiences amused at the “Pinoy Fiesta and Trade Show in Toronto” organized by Philippine Canadian Charitable Foundation.

Meanwhile, Kapuso Primetime King Dingdong Dantes flew to United Kingdom for the “Birmingham-Sandwell-West Midlands Fiesta Celebrations” last July 3 presented by Birmingham Filipino-British Community Volunteers and brought happiness to his admirers there.

Wrapping up GMA Pinoy TV’s Philippine Independence Day celebrations for 2016 was none other than Miss World 2013 and Kapuso star Megan Young. Megan dazzled at the “Pinoy Fiesta Vancouver” in Canada, where a huge crowd assembled to show support and admiration to the regal beauty. Megan’s performance was the highlight of the celebration organized by the Philippine Canadian Cultural Society.

Another highlight of 2016 took place in October as the stars of the iconic Kapuso telefantasya Encantadia held an event in the Middle East. The show’s die-hard supporters, collectively known as Encantadiks, trooped to Khalidiyah Mall to witness cast members Glaiza de Castro, Rocco Nacino, and Solenn Heussaff perform live at the “Avisala, UAE!” show.

As the year draws to a close, Comedy Queen Ai-Ai delas Alas took part in the “Philippine Adobo Festival” adding flavor to AZ Media Entertainment Services’ event in Texas, while Kapuso crooner James Wright participated in Philippine Fiesta of Victoria, Inc.’s “Philippine Fiesta 2016” in Melbourne, Australia.

GMA First Vice President for International Operations Joseph T. Francia is grateful for another successful year. “We are humbled by the support of our Kapuso viewers overseas and we look forward to celebrating more years with them as we continue to bring them closer to home through our programs and on-ground events,” he said.

As GMA International welcomes 2017, another set of thrilling events is in store for Kapuso supporters worldwide starting off with “Sikat Ka, Kapuso!” in California featuring Jennylyn Mercado, Dennis Trillo, Alden Richards, Tom Rodriguez, Lovi Poe, and Betong Sumaya, which happened last January 22, 2017. Another first for the year will be the Wowowin Worldwide Tour which is set to kick off in Abu Dhabi this February 17.

Fuelled by the outpouring of support from Filipinos from all corners of the world, GMA Pinoy TV will continue to spread the Kapuso spirit as they journey through another eventful year this 2017.
