June 20 2017
The weekend of June 10 and 11 turned out to be one for the books for Filipinos in Japan who were present at the culmination of the 2017 Tokyo Summer Festival to watch Kapuso comedy queen Aiai delas Alas and Encantadia star Ruru Madrid perform live.
The Kapuso stars’ presence during the festival, which coincided with the observance of the Migrant Workers’ Day and 119th celebration of Philippine Independence, was made possible by GMA Pinoy TV as the exclusive media sponsor.
Ruru’s charm was on full display as he personally bonded with his Kapuso Abroad in Japan at the meet-and-greet session held at the GMA Pinoy TV booth. Ruru gamely posed for photos with his fans, as if he were reuniting with long-time friends. Ever the gentleman, Ruru eagerly went onstage when he was invited to join a “Trip to Jerusalem” game. The female participants couldn’t hide their excitement at being in close proximity to the dashing actor.
Aiai joined Ruru on June 11 for a whole day of fun and festivities, kick-started by a ceremonial toast and a grand parade. For their special performances, Aiai and Ruru showed why they are two of GMA’s best with rousing song and dance numbers that had the crowd on their feet. After their show-stopping numbers, Aiai and Ruru welcomed their supporters with open arms for photo ops.
Ruru, who portrayed Ybarro in the 2016 adaptation of Encantadia, expressed his delight for being a part of the cultural celebration with the Kapuso Abroad. “Thank you very much GMA Pinoy TV for inviting me here at Ueno Park. Sobrang nag-enjoy po ako kasama ang lahat ng mga Kapuso natin sa 2017 Tokyo Summer Festival. Avisala eshma!,” Ruru said.
Aiai, on the other hand, looks forward to coming back to Japan to be with her kababayans again. “Lubos po akong nagpapasalamat sa Luminaries Joint Group and GMA Pinoy TV for this opportunity to perform for our Kapuso in Japan. Sana po ay napaligaya ko ang aking mga kababayan sa 2017 Tokyo Summer Festival at sana po ay magkita-kita tayo ulit,” she said.
Organized by the Luminaries Joint Group, the 2017 Tokyo Summer Festival aimed to feature multicultural performances, contests, and pageants from various communities in Japan.
