The Kapuso Abroad in the US are in for a captivating Fil Fest USA, with actress and Miss World 2013 Megan Young gracing the occasion on October 14 in Virginia.
Organized by Fil Fest USA LLC with the participation of GMA Pinoy TV, the event is a celebration of Filipino-American culture set to unfold at the Norfolk Waterside District in Virginia. The presence of beauty queen Megan Young highlights the whole day affair, which honors the region’s Filipino settlement and story through dance, music, food, and the arts.
Other highlights include cultural performances from regional and local artists, as well as exhibits showcasing Filipino products and top destinations courtesy of the Philippine Department of Tourism.
More than 7,000 are expected to attend the event including members of various Filipino-American youth organizations, namely, the Filipino Young Professionals of Washington DC (FYP-DC), Filipino Intercollegiate Networking Dialogue, Inc. (FIND), and Filipino-American Student Organization (FASA), and neighboring states such as Washington DC, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.
In line with the Filipino-American History Month, Fil Fest USA also serves as a venue to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Naval Air Station in Norfolk, as well as the 75th Anniversary of the Bataan Death March in the Philippines. A Parade of Lights will take place to honor the Filipino World War II veterans, and a Congressional Gold Medal will be given to the survivors or the closest relatives of deceased veterans.
