GMA Kapuso Foundation has taken a concrete step towards helping local residents of Calumpit, Bulacan and Angono, Rizal prepare for future calamities through the construction of a Kapuso Multi-Purpose Center in select schools in these areas.

Both Calumpit and Angono are known as areas prone to frequent flooding prompting the Foundation to initiate disaster preparedness measures in cooperation with local government officials. 

“Recent climate patterns indicate the possibility of more frequent flooding in vulnerable areas such as Calumpit and Angono,” said GMAKF EVP and COO Mel C. Tiangco on the rationale behind this project.

“Upon meeting with the local government units, we’ve decided to explore other possibilities outside of school building projects in order to help the affected populace more directly and the idea of building a multi-purpose center came up,” she added.

Taking into consideration factors such as accessibility and security, Baguion Elementary School in Calumpit, Bulacan and Angono Elementary School in Angono, Rizal were identified as the ideal locations for this purpose. These facilities will serve as an evacuation center in times of calamities and similarly, as a venue for indoor activities and school functions.

Construction for both projects is currently ongoing following the groundbreaking ceremonies, which took place last February.  The GMAKF targets the completion of the two projects on May and June respectively.
