Earth Friendly Bazaar

From November 8 to December 10, the corners of M. F. Jhocson, F. Jhocson and Sancho Panza Streets in Sampaloc, Manila will be no plastic bag zone at the Earth Friendly Bazaar. The Earth Friendly Bazaar is part of a series of environmental campaigns in support of the national and local governments’ effort to wake up the consciousness of each Filipino citizen and actively participate in the use of not only earth friendly products but also the proper disposal of non-earth friendly products. The project is a satellite project of a group of environmentalists who believe that participation as private individuals greatly helps in speeding up environmental changes in the community. The bazaar promotes using earth friendly materials when shopping, and the objective is to eliminate the use of plastic bags when shopping. "As such, our traders will only use newspapers, brown bags and other similar materials to wrap the items bought from them. The core idea is the use of Katcha shopping bags made from flour bags which we encourage patrons to use as a regular practice every time they shop," says project manager Ensha Ancheta. "We are engaging the participation of barangays, bus liners and school organizations in the University belt to help promote and internalize the cause," says Ancheta, noting that they have signified our full and solid support for the partner barangays by endorsing all entrance ticket sales to them to help fund their waste segregation/ environmental projects. Meanwhile, they will have the Ms. Gay Environmental Fashionista and Recycled/Reused/Scrap materials Parol Making contest to involve the schools and communities. There are two phases of the Bazaar: The culmination of the first phase is timed on the eve of the Fiesta Celebration of Our Lady of Loreto Parish. The announcement and awarding ceremonies for the winners of the Miss Gay Environmental Fashionista will start at 6 p.m. with reputable judges mostly from the surrounding Barangays and hard core environmentalists who support the advocacy theme of the Bazaar. The awarding and announcement of the winners of the Parol Making Contests will be on December 22, 2011.
