UST to stage Christmas concert on Dec. 4

It is again the time of the year when some of the finest voices and musicians of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) will croon Yuletide tunes in the annual Christmas Concert on December 4 at the UST Chapel.

The musical feast, which starts at 7 p.m., will showcase UST’s homegrown talents like the UST Symphony Orchestra, Coro Tomasino, and Liturgikon Vocal Ensemble under the baton of Prof. Herminigildo G. Ranera.

To be opened by a brass Christmas fanfare, the concert will feature Venezuela’s premier local a cappella band XCOR La Banda Vocal de Venezuela.

Tenors Lemuel de la Cruz, Ronan Ferrer, Eugene de los Santos, and Raymond Muyot and sopranos Naomi Sison, Charlene Ramos, Jade Riccio, Jasmine Salvo, and other performers, will sing classic, religious, and celebratory Christmas hymns like “Do You Hear What I Hear,” “When You Believe,” and more.

Also gracing the event will be June Francis Jaranilla (bass) and Frederick Maturan and Kathleen Sunga (soloists), and a brass choir with conductor Michael E. Jacinto.

The UST Symphony Orchestra, with Ranera as conductor, will play “Once Upon A Christmas,” “How Far Is It From Betlehem,” and a set of Italian songs.

The event, chaired by UST Museum Director Fr. Isidro C. Abaño, O.P., will conclude in a community singing of some popular Filipino Christmas songs.
