GMA Kapuso Foundation returns to Iligan, Lanao Norte for 3rd wave of relief ops

The GMA Kapuso Foundation went back to Iligan City and nearby areas to provide evacuees from conflict-torn Marawi City with more emergency relief operations.

The GMAKF team was in Matungao, Lanao del Norte to distribute supplies to 1,134 families.  School items were also given to 435  Kindergarten and Grade 1 pupils who fled Marawi with their families.

Thursday morning, June 29, saw the GMA Kapuso Foundation fanning out to Sarip-Alawi in Balo-i, Lanao del Norte to hand out blankets, diapers, children's clothes, and sleeping mats to a total 75 families.

On May 29, just six days after the ISIS-inspired terrorist Maute group laid siege to Marawi City, the GMAKF was the first corporate media foundation to arrive in Iligan City after the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Philippine Red Cross (PRC).

All told, the GMAKF was able to provide relief to over 20,000 people (May 29 – June 5), including Kindergarten and Grade 1 pupils,  bakwits based in evacuation centers, home-based evacuees, and soldiers.

The first wave of relief ops began at the Buru-un evacuation center in Iligan  and the second wave at Barangay Iponan in CDO.

GMAKF was assisted by the local personnel from disaster risk reduction and management councils, DSWD, PRC and the Philippine Army.
