James Yap 'off to Seville' to cheer on Gilas Pilipinas

PBA superstar James Yap may not be part of the Gilas Pilipinas roster for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup, but it looks like he'll be in Spain supporting the national team... as a fan.

After a month-long vacation with his girlfriend in Italy, the San Mig Super Coffee Mixers top gun posted a photo of an airport boarding screen with the caption: "Off to Seville."

Gilas will plays its games in Group B in the Spanish city.

Yap's announcement seemed to have taken his Mixers teammate Marc Pingris by surprise. The Gilas forward left a comment asking: "Punta ka sa game?@jamesyap18. San.ka nag stay?"

A two-time PBA Most Valuable Player, Yap was originally invited to the Gilas pool by coach Chot Reyes in 2012.

Last month on "Tonight with Arnold Clavio," Yap revealed why he begged off.

"Kasi nung time na naimbitahan naman tayo diyan sa Gilas, nung time na yun, yun nga, nagka-injury ako, so naisip ko na lang, bakit hindi natin bigyan yung iba ng chance, ibang player. Na-experience ko naman yun dati," said Yap, who described his injuries in the elbow, shoulder, and back. — JST, GMA News
