'It's More Fun In The Philippines' becomes an Internet meme

Twitter went into overdrive on Friday with online Pinoys telling the world why they think it's more fun in their homeland following the launch of the Department of Tourism's new international marketing campaign, "It's more fun in the Philippines".

The slogan turned into a viral meme and briefly became a top trending topic worldwide on Friday morning.

"Pag may handaan sa kapitbahay invited ka kahit hindi kayo magkakilala. Dadalan ka pa ng food sa bahay! #itsmorefuninthephilippines" offered tweep Noel Nuñez.

English author Neil Gaiman, who has visited the Philippines thrice, joined in on the fun and tweeted, "#itsmorefuninthephilippines hashtag is a true one. They applaud loudly and hug you a lot."

The campaign has also caught up on Facebook, where some Pinoys are pasting the catchphrase "It's more fun in the Philippines" onto pictures that ultimately result in humorous albeit ironic statements.

DOT's new campaign, conceived with the help of top advertising agency BBDO Guerrero | Proximity Philippines, has been met largely with support despite a discovery that it's nearly the exact same slogan used in a 1951 Swiss ad for tourism.
