Instagram: 10M photos shared on US Thanksgiving Day

Photos of turkeys and pies and everything about Thanksgiving Day – more than 10 million of them – dominated photo sharing service Instagram on the important American occasion. In a blog post, Instagram said this was a "record usage" as Instagrammers shared photos of their loved ones and holiday celebrations. "Over 10 million photos that mentioned Thanksgiving-themed words in their captions were shared (on Thanksgiving Day). For several hours throughout the day, more than 200 photos about Thanksgiving were posted every second. Overall, the day broke all Instagram records as we saw the number of shared photos more than double from the day before, making it our busiest day so far," it said. By comparison, Instagram noted Election Day last Nov. 6, where Barack Obama II won a second term, saw 250,000 photos uploaded. Instagram said it was "thrilled" to see people use Instagram to share their holidays. "Whether celebrating with friends and family or sharing photos with them halfway across the globe, we’re excited to see the intimacy and immediacy of the Instagram experience bring us all closer together over this holiday season," it said. A separate article on The Next Web said the 10 million photos were shared at a rate of 226 per second during the peak at 12:40 p.m. PST. "In fact, the day broke all Instagram records, making it the busiest day for the mobile photo sharing service ever. The Facebook-owned company says it saw the number of shared photos more than double from the day before," it added. The Next Web noted Instagram typically sees over five million photos uploaded each day, and that Facebook averages about 300 million daily. On the other hand, it noted Instagram is taking huge hints from Facebook in redesigning its profiles. — LBG, GMA News
