The UP protester reviewing for Bio during rally

Whoever thought studying and protesting are mutually exclusive were literally proven wrong by a viral photo of a student reading up for biology class while at a protest on Thursday.

Dani Ting, a third year psychology student from University of the Philippines-Diliman, was seen in this tweet holding a reviewer behind a placard while she stands with a crowd of students at a protest rally in UP's Quezon Hall.

The tweet read: "ISKOLAR NG BAYAN NGAYON AY LUMALABAN (AT NAGREREVIEW NG BIO 12)". The line about scholars fighting is a common protest chant for UP students, while Bio 12 is a course on the fundamentals of biology.

Ting's friend Patrick Wincy Reyes, who is taking his master's degree in statistics from UP as well, saw Ting studying and snapped a photo, grabbing an opportunity to make a point.

"Naisip ko kasi yung mga stereotype sa tibak na hindi nag-aaral, panay rally o walkout lang, pero hindi naman totoo," Reyes told GMA News Online in a message.

"Ayun, nakita ko si Dani, na kaya naman talagang pagsabayin sa pinakaliteral na paraan."

Reyes uploaded his tweet at 10:50 a.m. on September 21, the 45th anniversary of the declaration of martial law and dubbed the first "National Day of Protest."

The viral tweet has amassed more than 7,800 retweets and more than 53,000 likes as of writing. —JST, GMA News
