Marvel releases first trailer for new series ‘Cloak and Dagger’

A recognizable Marvel superhero duo is going to make its small screen debut next year: Marvel and Freeform have partnered to develop a “Cloak and Dagger” television series.

Here is the first trailer for the upcoming series:

A press statement describes the series and its premise:

“Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger” is the story of Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph), two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers which are mysteriously linked to one another. Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart, but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.

The network has ordered ten one-hour episodes slated to debut early 2018.

The series also stars Andrea Roth, Gloria Reuben, Miles Mussenden, Carl Lundstedt, James Saito and J.D. Evermore. Joe Pokaski (“Heroes”) serves as showrunner and executive producer; Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory (Marvel’s upcoming “The Punisher” and “The Defenders”) also serve as executive producers.

Based on characters created by writers Bill Mantlo and Ed Hannigan who made their first appearance in the pages of “Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man” in 1982, Cloak and Dagger have regularly appeared as allies of the webslinger, as well as the Avengers and X-Men. Cloak has the ability to teleport and link to a darkforce dimension, while Dagger has the power to heal and construct her weapons from light. Both heroes complement one another, and are rarely separated from each other.
