Fans flock to PHL premiere of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’

Disney and Marvel Studios prepare to take the audience on another trip beyond Earth as we catch up with the gang of misfits and former criminals trying to save the universe from whatever danger in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” (GOTG Vol. 2) — the follow-up to Marvel Studios’ 2014 cosmic adventure film.

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures and Marvel Philippines on Thursday held the Philippine premiere of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2", which was filled with all kinds of excitement and nostalgia.

Fans were treated to cocktails and pictorials with a fantastic backdrop, signs, and a huge standee poster featuring the entire cast of GOTG Vol. 2 — with a couch right in the middle to help get that perfect Instagram shot.

This advanced screening was also attended by famous personalities from Philippine entertainment, with guests including singer Martin Nievera, “Saving Sally” actor and director Enzo Marcos, and the members of the band Sponge Cola.

The main highlight of the red carpet however was the appearance of cosplayers dressed as the characters from the movie itself. Familiar heroes like Star-Lord, Gamora, and Groot from the original "Guardians of the Galaxy" film returned, but new players like Mantis and Peter Quill’s long lost daddy Ego were represented.

After that, everyone was treated to the long awaited screening of the sequel… and all I can say is that it is an awesome follow-up that more than lives up to its predecessor and the rest of the films by Marvel Studios in general.

Anyone who has enjoyed the Marvel Cinematic Universe will not be disappointed by this film. Be reminded to stay long after they switch the lights back on, because there are five post-credits scenes lined up after the main feature ends.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will open in theaters on April 26.

James Gunn returns as the director, while Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel reprise their roles as the motley crew consisting of Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket Raccoon, and Baby Groot respectively. — AT, GMA News
