Pinoy artists shine in Wonder Woman comics set in Manila

The latest Wonder Woman comic book published by DC Comics shows the heroine fighting a super villain in the Philippines, GMA News' Mav Gonzales reported for "State of the Nation with Jessica Soho" on Wednesday.

In Wonder Woman No. 37, the superhero can be seen battling Darkseid, who wants to conquer the world, along Ortigas Avenue in Pasig City.

Fighting alongside Wonder Woman are Justice League members Superman, Green Lantern, the Flash, and Aquaman.

According to colorist Romulo Fajardo Jr., it was a British writer who suggested that the setting for the fight scenes be in Manila.

Aside from Fajardo, the other artists from DC Comics who worked on the comic book were Carlo Pagulayan, Stephen Segovia, and Jason Paz.

Fajardo said they were amused that the fight scenes were done along EDSA, a very busy major thoroughfare in Metro Manila.

With this setting, there is a possibility that the venue for the latest Wonder Woman movie would be in the Philippines.

Meanwhile, Fajardo advised amateur cartoonists to practice so as to improve on their craft.

"Tuloy-tuloy lang kayo sa pagguhit. Malay niyo, maging bahagi rin kayo ng DC (comics)," he said.

The other Filipinos who were able to make their mark in the international stage recently include, Tsinelas artist Elmer Padilla, Jacob Batalon who played Spiderman's sidekick in the movie "Spiderman: Homecoming," and lead technical animator Ryan Rubi. — BAP, GMA News
