Carlos Celdran spearheads crowdfunding effort to keep art installation for kids in Intramuros

Cultural activist Carlos Celdran on Thursday tapped his network of friends for some help in keeping an interactive art installation on the grounds of Intramuros.

Celdran took to Facebook to share his plea. He shared a photo of children hanging around  Aigars Bikse's "Spirit House" in front of Manila Cathedral, which he said he would buy if he could afford it.

The installation was part of the first Manila Biennale and with the event over, the artworks will need to be removed.

"If there’s one thing I regret about the Manila Biennale, it’s that I can’t afford to continue our children’s programming and I didn’t foresee the effect it would have on the community’s kids," Celdran wrote in a separate post.

"Now that the house is gone and the slide doesn’t have any buyers, these kids are going to be sadder than I am. I don’t have the heart to tell them the slide may be taken away and returned back to Latvia soon," he added.

Celdran posted a short clip of the children being asked about how they feel about the slide and how they would feel if it disappeared.

Celdran said that the artist has given a generous discount for the "red slide" and a number of his friends have expressed interest in donating and providing help in sourcing more funds.

Meanwhile, several netizens have shared Celdran's posts in the hopes of raising enough funds to keep the installation for the kids.
