‘Ang Larawan’ up for inaugural Best Original Score award at APSA 2018


Maestro Ryan Cayabyab is going head-to-head with global composing heavyweights Jóhann Jóhannsson and more at the 12th Asia Pacific Screen Awards.

Cayabyab is among the five nominees for the inaugural Best Original Score award, to be handed out by the new APSA Music in Film International Jury. Celebrated Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto heads the three-person jury that will select the first winner of the new award. 

"The Asia Pacific Screen Awards and its Academy, like the film culture it celebrates and supports, continues to grow and develop. Now in its twelfth year, it is time to acknowledge the invaluable contribution of music and musicians to the cinema of the region with the new award for Best Original Score. Congratulations to all of the talented nominees," Chair of the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, and its Academy, Michael Hawkins was quoted as saying in a statement published in the official website.

Cayabyab is nominated for the exceptional music of the  2017 Metro Manila Film Festival Best Picture winner "Ang Larawan" ("The Portrait").

He is competing against Jóhannsson ("Mary Magdalene"), Eléni Karaïndrou ("Bomb, A Love Story"), Harry Gregson-Williams (Breath), and Omar Fadel ("Yomeddine").

The 12th Asia Pacific Screen Awards gala will be held on November 29 in Brisbane. — AT, GMA News
