Halloween for grown-ups, from aswangs to zombies

The older Halloween fans might not be as comfortable dressing up for the holiday. But Halloween isn't just for kids. Just because you don’t want to be the only person above four feet going trick or treating, don’t let it keep you from wearing your costume. 

 

For the older crowd, there are events like Outbreak Manila, where you can run through a zombie infested Enchanted Kingdom on October 31.

 

Monsters ball

 

On October 27, come in costume and dance the night away at this year's Cream Halloween Ball. Now on its 12th year, the ball features DJ John Paul Lee, DJ Chris Reauber, and for the first time in Manila, Sean Tyas vs. Simon Patterson in a massive trance battle.

Also on October 27, at 9 p.m., a Halloween street party will be held at Orosa corner Nakpil Street, Malate, Manila. Mentorque Productions presents Black Party Manila, a street party featuring DJ Brian Chua of Bed, DJ Cal Soesanto of Androgyny Productions, and DJ Jepoy of Che'lu.

Thrills and chills

 

At Manila Ocean Park's Asian Ghost House, guests descend to the dungeon underground the park, where fright elements from popular Asian horror films await. Navigate through thrilling passage ways, where spirits lurk in the shadows. Somewhere in the Ghost House, a deranged white lady with her infant child wanders the corridors.

 

"Disturbing characters, special effects, music, lighting and sounds all fused together to create an intensely horrifying experience for teens and adults," Manila Ocean Park said.

On October 26, Scribble Works presents Limbo, a night of horror and partying at the NBC Tent in Taguig. Guests are invited to step into the darkness at the Tent of Horrors for the Limbo Experience from 5 to 10 p.m. Get out alive and party from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. to music by DJ NixDamnP and DJ A.M.BER.

Know your aswang

 

Who is Lilia Cuntapay? Pinoy moviegoers will recognize her as that scary lady in films like “Shake, Rattle and Roll,” but this time, Cuntapay stars in her first lead role. This Halloween, the queen of Pinoy horror cinema stars in "Six Degrees of Separation from Lilia Cuntapay," a mockumentary by Antoinette Jadaone, which is based on the theory that any person on the planet can be linked to another person through six introductions. The multi-awarded film was recently screened at the Busan International Film Festival and will have its commercial release in the Philippines on October 31. 

 

You can also watch “The Aswang Phenomenon” online. Written and directed by Jordan Clark, this documentary explores aswang folklore and its effects on Philippine society. 

 

There's also the horror-suspense thriller “Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles,” which opens on October 17. Directed by Erik Matti, the movie is the first in the history of Philippine cinema to be shot entirely in green screen.
