PHL starts bid for world record with longest peace mural

The Philippines on Sunday started its bid to set a world record with the longest peace mural along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) in Quezon City.

Several Filipino artists took part in the start of the “Lakbay para sa Kapayapaan sa EDSA” (A Journey of Peace in EDSA), radio dzBB's Manny Vargas reported.

With more than 1,000 participants seeking to make a 4-km mural, the bid aims to beat the present record of 1 km in Chile, the report said.

In a radio interview, Armed Forces of the Philippines spokesman Brig. Gen. Domingo Tutaan Jr. said the people are sending a message to armed rebels, including the New People's Army, that they want peace.

"Hey let's stop fighting, we're all Filipinos," he said in an interview on dzBB radio.

A report on state-run Philippine Information Agency said Sunday's event aims to boost awareness about how Filipinos can be part of the peace-building process.

The PIA report said Chile's longest mural for peace was set in 2009, made over one weekend and with the help of up to 500 young artists.

It added the target areas include EDSA Santolan, Bonny Serrano and White Plains— LBG, GMA News
