Celebrity look-alikes: Doppelganger or separated at birth?

Cosplay is a fad among young Filipinos, who put a lot of effort into getting the appearance of a character or celebrity just right.

Some stand-up comedians work hard to look like a celebrity or media personality, and even become famous for it. Think Willie Nepomuceno.

But for a few, whether they like it or not, looking like someone famous is effortless.

Girls swoon over Red Israel Jr., not just because of his natural good looks but because if he walks by you in a mall, he could pass for movie star John Lloyd Cruz.

"They call me Lloydy, they call me John Lloyd, Popoy," he said in a report on GMA News' “Saksi” Tuesday night.

"Parang fun at the same time, embarrassing... Kasi parang napu-put on the spot ka. 'Yun lang 'yun, pero okay naman siya, cool lang," he added.

Rico Lazaro can relate to that, as some people claim he looks like matinee idol Piolo Pascual.

"Mayroong mga comment na hindi naman pero mas lamang pa rin ang nagsasabing kamukha ko si Piolo, so nakakatuwa talaga," he said in the same report.

Meanwhile, roll out the red carpet for Dagupan's Venancio Medina, a dead ringer for President Benigno Aquino III.

In the report, Medina said people usually flash the famous "laban” sign when they see him. "Kung minsan nakikita ako, puro ganon sila sa 'kin, nagsa-sign sila, ng letter L," he said.

GMA News Online's graphic designer Den Fajardo also has his very own celebrity look-alike – Senator-elect Bam Aquino.

Even Bam, cousin of President Aquino, is aware of this.

Even celebrities themselves look like other celebrities. Take Kapuso actress Rhian Ramos, for example. She could easily be mistaken for American country-singer Taylor Swift's Asian sister.

In its episode last Sunday, GMA News TV's "Ang Pinaka" program ranked Rhian Ramos and Taylor Swift number 3 on their list of famous celebrities looking like other celebrities.

Actresses Roxanne Guinoo and Sandy Andolong ranked number 2, while Mae Paner (also known as Juana Change) and Sen. Franklin Drilon ranked number 1. — Amanda Fernandez/KBK/HS, GMA News
