Even before going vegetarian, Amanda Griffin Jacob gained fame in her modeling career. But it seems things could only get better for Griffin Jacob, who was crowned the Philippines' 2013 Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity.

Griffin Jacob narrowly beat out Delara frontwoman Lougee Basabas, FHM cover girls Alicia Mayer and Geneva Cruz, and models Sandra Seifert and Julia Sniegowski for the title, PETA Asia Pacific said in a press release on June 19.

Griffin Jacob says being vegetarian allows her to give her children "the best possible start in life."

"When I was eating meat, I had a lot of digestive issues. Now that I'm vegetarian, I feel wonderful both mentally and physically," said Griffin Jacob, who went vegetarian in 2007.

Once a carnivore, Griffin Jacob shared her transition began when she read Pamela Rice's “101 Reasons I'm Vegetarian.” She began by eliminating meat from her diet, and eventually stopped eating seafood as well. In 2010, she described herself as "an almost vegan."

"Most people still don’t really understand what I mean when I explain my dietary choices. I don’t consume any animal products. I eat a plant-based diet. No dairy, no meat, no fish. Just veggies, grains, nuts & seeds, etc. And I feel better than I ever have before," she wrote in her blog

'Slim and sexy'

"Amanda knows that going vegetarian is the best thing that you can do for animals, the Earth, and your health. Plus, she's living proof that being vegetarian keeps you slim and sexy," said PETA Asia Vice President Jason Baker.

"Do it. Your mind and body will thank you for it," was Griffin Jacob's advice to wannabe vegetarians.

Last February, Griffin Jacob joined a group of models and actresses campaigning for the transfer of Mali the elephant from the Manila Zoo to a sanctuary in Thailand. Also in the group was model Sandra Seifert was crowned the Philippines' Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity in 2012.

Apart from shooting season two of her TV show “Amanda, Living Life,” Griffin Jacob maintains GlamoMamas.com, a resource website for moms.

Of course, being vegetarian doesn't automatically mean being healthy. As Griffin Jacob shared on her blog, being on the go all the time makes it difficult to eat properly. "As a vegetarian you can imagine my choices are not always that healthy or varied. This has resulted in me choosing the easier option rather than the best option," she wrote.

"No matter how busy you are, it is imperative to make time management a priority so that you can lead a balanced life that will leave you happy and healthy," she said, sharing tips for working moms.

Other popular contenders for this year's contest included actors Chin Chin Gutierrez, Raymond Bagatsing, and Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan as well as international stars such as former U.S. President Bill Clinton, musicians Jason Mraz and Paul McCartney, talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres, and actors Natalie Portman, Tobey Maguire, Jared Leto, and Anne Hathaway, PETA said. —Carmela G.
