INC bags new Guinness world records for gospel choir, Philippine Arena

The Iglesia ni Cristo gained two new world records Sunday after the Guinness Book of World Records declared its choir as the largest gospel choir in the world and the Philippine Arena as the largest mixed-use theater in the world.

The announcement was made by Guiness adjudicator Kaoru Ishikawa at the end of the INC's centennial celebration at the Philippine Arena.

According to Guinness, a total of 51,519 spectators watched the morning worship service at the Philippine Arena Sunday morning. The structure has a seating capacity of 55,000.

An estimated 2 million people attended the INC's centennial celebration at Ciudad de Victoria in Bocaue, Bulacan, the inter-agency Task Force Sentenaryo said.

With 4,745 singers, the INC choir also bested the current world record held by the McDonald's Super Gospel Choir, which has 1,171 members.

The INC now has a total of eight world records, including two set in February for Largest Charity Walk in 24 Hours (multiple venues) and Largest Charity Walk. — Xianne Arcangel/BM, GMA News
