MJ Lastimosa falls short of Top Five of 63rd Miss Universe pageant

Mary Jean Lastimosa of the Philippines fell short of her goal to become the first Filipina Miss Universe since 1973 as she failed to make it to the Top Five of the pageant in Miami, Florida on Sunday (Monday morning PHL time).

The 27-year-old beauty from Cotabato made it through to the final 15 and the final 10, but could not advance any further.

She ended her campaign wearing a white mermaid dress by Colombian designer Alfredo Barazza during the evening gown segment of the competition.

Making it to the top five are USA, Netherlands, Ukraine, Jamaica, and Colombia.

MJ had hoped to follow in the footsteps of Gloria Diaz in 1969 and Margie Moran in 1973.

The pageant in Miami, Florida was full of Filipino flavor with ring icon Manny Pacquiao headlining the list of judges.

During the broadcast, reigning Miss Universe Gabriela Isler also talked about her visit to Yolanda-hit areas in the Philippines. The Miss Universe organization announced that it has raised $250,000 for relief efforts. —JST, GMA News
