Lanao del Norte student wins UN WFP design competition

Sixth grader Nasif Cali from Denaig Elementary School in Poona Piagao, Lanao Del Norte impressed the jury in Rome, Italy and emerged the winner of the United Nations World Food Programme's (WFP) Children's Design Competition 2016.

Cali's drawing was selected from 70 submissions from 14 different countries where the WFP has school meal programs.

"My drawing depicts people belonging to the different races across the world uniting together through love, peace, joy, faith and hope for a better future for all of mankind," the 12-year-old artist explained.

Cali will receive $100 with his award while his school will receive $2,000 to be sent on school supplies.

According to the WFP, art is a way for children in conflict-ridden areas to express hope and they hope that the works produced in the competition remind people that while hunger and strife is real, so is the desire to end it. — AT, GMA News
