Abuse victim, deaf-mute among Miss Global Philippines 2017 bets

Sometimes, beauty pageants are more than just getting that crown while wearing a dazzling gown.

There is a story behind every candidate which proves that every woman can strut her way into a pageant amid life's challenges.

In a report by Lhar Santiago on "24 Oras," Christine Balaguer, a deaf mute, wants to prove that she could still shine in the Miss Global Philippines despite her disability.

"It's my insipiration and I want the people to see me even though I am a deaf I can join a beauty pageant," Christine, one of the 22 candidates, said through an interpreter.

Christine wants to show the public that she can live a normal life just like other women.

Meanwhile, for Fina Jallene Gulapa, being abused in the past should never hinder a woman to step up and do what she wants and needs to do.

"I want to tell women out there who are abused, don't ever settle for less than what you think you deserve. You must also rise and take a bigger role in the society," Fina said.

Charmaine Aller, for her part, wants to help her family.

She sees the beauty pageant as an opportunity to support her loved ones.

"I want to give them a good life especially when my father died last September 2014. I am the third eldest and I'm the one who provide for their needs," Charmaine said.

The Miss Globe Philippines 2017 grand coronation night will be held on June 24 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater of Resorts World Manila.  —ALG, GMA News
