Alden Richards tortured as Boni Ilagan in GMA's martial law docu ‘Alaala’

Kapuso actor Alden Richards relived the imprisonment and torture of Kabataang Makabayan founder, activist and human rights advocate Boni Ilagan in GMA Public Affairs' documentary "Alaala: A Martial Law Special."

Ilagan wrote the screenplay for Richards' boldest role yet for the commemoration of the 45th anniversary of late strongman President Ferdinand Marcos' declaration of martial law.

The episode features a behind-the-scenes look of how Richards immersed himself into physical and emotional pain suffered by Ilagan during martial law.

The story dates back to Ilagan's younger years as an activist in the University of Philippines-Diliman where he meets his hero-turned-friend and eventual co-detainee journalist Pete Lacaba played by Rocco Nacino.

Together, they suffered and endured through incarceration in the tumultuous period of the Marcos dictatorship. —Margaret Claire Layug/ALG, GMA News
