Mariel De Leon wipes Twitter account clean, vows to keep fighting for beliefs

It's a fresh start this week for Miss International Philippines 2017 Mariel De Leon as she wiped her Twitter account clean.

One of Mariel's new post is a screencap of a note, where she issued an apology for letting her emotions get the best of her.

"I'm a very passionate person. Especially when it comes to matters close to my heart. Most especially anxiety and depression because I know how hard the struggle is. I admit that my emotions do get the better of me and the words I choose may come out wrong at times," Mariel wrote.

"For that, I do apologize. I'm still young but I know that isn't an excuse. I'm stil learning and going through life day by day," she continued.

Prior to the wipe, Mariel had been critical of the statement made by Eat Bulaga host Joey De Leon about depression, which went viral.

In one of her tweets, Mariel expressed her disgust at the noontime host's dismissal of the mental health disorder and said that, although they share the same last name, she's happy they are not related.

Joey De Leon had issued an apology a day after his statement drew flak on social media, admitting that he made a mistake. "Nagkamali po ako," he said.

Mariel has previously received praise for being an ardent voice on social media and she assured her fans that she will continue to be vocal about issues she cares about.

"I keep my advocacies close to my heart and I'll always be voicing out my opinions passionately. It is a privilege to have a platform and a voice. And I will strive to use it with due respect and fairness," Mariel declared. — AT/LA, GMA News
