Miss Globe PHL 2018 Michele Gumabao shares struggle with her height, weight

Standing out seems like a good thing by default, but Miss Globe Philippines 2018 Michele Gumabao revealed that she wanted the complete opposite when she was younger.

In an interview with GMA News Online on Wednesday, Michele said that she used to feel like she was "too tall."

"That's when I entered sports, because height is a big advantage in sports," the beauty queen added.

Despite excelling as an athlete, Michele was still uncomfortable with the constant remarks about her height like "You're so tall!" and "You're so big!"

"Big is a very... it's a two-way word, it's a double-edged sword. I didn't know, I was a chubby kid growing up. So that was also my insecurity: my weight," Michele said.

But it was really her height that bothered her. "I didn't want to be taller than other people, I didn't want to stand out... because people look at you more, people judge you more."

Nowadays, Michele is quite comfortable being not just an athlete, but also a statuesque beauty queen. No matter how "big" your worries are about a perceived flaw, the world is always bigger and somewhere out there, that flaw may not even be a flaw at all.
