What food are good to eat every day?

With the new year upon us, promises of “Mag di-diet na talaga ako!” are in order. For most people, such resolutions start out well but eventually become inconsistent. To keep up with your healthy options and to kick off the year right, take note of these food that are good to eat every day:

Go nuts over nuts

A recent study found out that eating nuts everyday may prolong one’s lifespan. Researchers from London say a daily serving of nuts could help prevent four million deaths around the world. Nuts that may be included in your daily diet include cashews and almonds. However, one should take note that only a handful of nuts is recommended everyday, as advised by the study’s authors.

Consider a garlic clove

Garlic is an essential ingredient in any type of meal, so this one is fairly easy to eat daily. To get the best of its antibacterial properties, Reader’s Digest suggests letting your crushed or chopped garlic stand for 10 minutes before eating. A clove a day could lower the risk of getting colorectal, stomach, and prostate cancer.

Have a daily probiotic drink

Did you know that trillions of good and bad bacteria live in your digestive system? The goal is to keep the beneficial ones intact or to keep them growing in your gut for proper digestion. However, there are instances that may kill your good bacteria, such as lack of sleep or taking antibiotics. To counter this, include a probiotic drink like Yakult in your daily diet to help keep your belly fit. A bottle of Yakult contains 8 billion of the probiotic Lactobacillus casei Shirota strain that is scientifically proven to reach your gut alive, making it the perfect choice of drink every day to keep your tummy happy.

Add in tomatoes

Tomatoes are rich in lycopene, which has antioxidant properties that can be a preventive measure against diseases. Apart from that, tomatoes also have high Vitamin A and Vitamin C content, which help protect one’s hair, skin, and heart.

Indulge in dark chocolate

Indulging yourself once in a while is good, but if you can’t help doing it daily, dietitian Susie Burrell says dark chocolate should be your choice. “The darker, the better,” she writes on The Sydney Morning Herald. Dark chocolate has flavanol content, which is found to be good for the brain as it can reduce memory loss. However, like any other food, taking dark chocolate in moderation should also be observed.
