Michelin Starred Hawker Chan of Singapore now in the PHL

When Chef Chan Hong Meng opened his humble soya chicken rice hawker stall Liao Fan Hawker Chan nine years ago in a government subsidized center in Singapore, he never thought it would be a hit, let alone earn him his third consecutive Michelin Star.

And now it's in Manila, thanks to FOODEE Global Concepts, which have brought us other Michelin Star restaurants like Tim Ho Wan, Tsuta Japanese Soba, and Foo’d by Davide Oldani.

“We are always on the lookout for affordable luxury… Since Pinoys love to visit Hawker Chan in Singapore, we thought we’d bring it here, and offer the same combination of great food and affordable luxury to them," said FOODEE Global Concepts CEO Rikki Dee.

True to its roots, Hawker Chan features a simple menu boasting its best sellers. Dishes are incredibly affordable — even cheaper than in Singapore — and range from P128 for the famous soya sauce chicken to P270 for a three-meat platter.

Chef Chan's famous soya sauce chicken, which earned Chef Chan his first Michelin Star in 2016, is incredibly tender and juicy with subtle flavors.

With its glistening dark brown skin, it's perfect with the saucy noodles sambal, which is imported all the way from Singapore.

To maintain the quality at all Hawker Chan stores, only Chef Chan can make the ?? (lushui) or master brine where the plump chickens are slowly cooked for 45 minutes.

Aside from their bestselling soya chicken, there is also the char siew, deliciously moreish with its sweet and savory combination.

The slight char gives it a smoky flavor that will remind you of our beloved local pork barbecue, but its flavors are something else.

Dip it in some light soy sauce, place a pinch of sambal on top, and make sure to savor every glorious bite of its porky goodness.

The roasted pork features crispy skin and tender meat. The amount of fat may be off-putting for some, but it can easily be remedied by their signature pickled chilis and sambal.

The 86-seater restaurant opens to the public today (July 26) and each time you dine at Hawker Chan between July 26 and August 5, you’ll get a chance at winning a 3-day 2-night trip to Singapore. The first 100 diners on July 26 and 27 will also receive supplies of Hawker Chan goodies! The first 10 will get a year’s worthof Hawker Chan products, the following 20 will get six months’ worth, the next 20 will three months’ worth, and the last 50 diners will get a month’s worth of Hawker Chan products.
