High school senior wins Mulat Pinoy vid contest, says parents are prime teachers of sexual health

Fourth year high school student Axel Santos, who won second place in Mulat Pinoy’s “Sexual Health: Shout or Shush?” video contest, had much to say on parents' role as prime teachers of sexual health. “Ang role ng mga magulang, [kumbaga] sa eskuwelahan, parang sila po ‘yung pinakaguro. Dapat silang magbigay ng kaalaman sa kanilang mga anak lalo na [tungkol] sa mga pagbabago sa kanilang katawan,” the fourth year Lagro High School student told GMA News Online via phone interview on Wednesday. “Ang magulang ang pinakamagandang gabay sa kanilang mga anak,” he added. It's a theme Santos played out, albeit less earnestly serious and more humorously cheeky, in his winning piece, “Piko at Tirador”. The names of Axel and his fellow winners on Mulat Pinoy’s video contest were announced on Wednesday. Each of the entries showed their take on Philippines’ sexual health situation. Of the 20 entries submitted last October, Rafael Manzano’s “Kabataan, Gising Na!” bagged the first prize garnering about 2,175 votes on Facebook and 28 on YouTube. Manzano's recognition comes with a P25,000 cash prize. As the second prize winner, Axel shall receive P10,000 cash, while third prize winner Rodinah Pongan’s “SH: Alam Mo Na Ba?” shall receive P 5,000. All winners will also receive trophies and certificates. The “Sexual Health: Shout or Shush?” video contest was organized to encourage young Filipinos to speak their thoughts about anything and everything related to sexual health, Mulat Pinoy said in an emailed statement. Mulat Pinoy, a project of the Probe Media Foundation, Inc., is a social media initiative of various organizations that focuses on population and development issues in the Philippines. There were 10 finalists in the contest, with their entries readily available for viewing through the Probe Foundation's Facebook account. — DVM/KG, GMA News
