PHL breaks world record for most number of organ donor sign-ups in 1 hour


The Philippines broke on Friday the Guinness World Records for the most number of people who signed up for organ donation in one hour.
 
In his Twitter account, Department of Health (DOH) Assistant Secretary Dr. Eric Tayag announced that the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) was able to gather 3,548 pledges for organ donation as of 10:01 a.m.


 
Tayag said they are now awaiting for an official announcement by the representatives of Guinness about the Philippines' latest feat.
 
The Philippines also aims to break the world record for the most number of people to sign up as organ donor in eight hours, which is also held by India at 10,450 on December 1, 2013.
 
Organized by Lifeline.PH in partnership with the DOH, similar organ donation sign-up events are also being held simultaneously in five other locations in the country, namely, at Quezon Memorial Circle, Quezon City, Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center, San Fernando City, La Union, Leonardo Mamba Gym, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, Jesse M. Robredo Coliseum, Naga City, Camarines Sur and Almendras Gym, Davao City, Davao del Sur.
 
As of 10 a.m., the Philippines surpassed the halfway point of its bid to set new world records with 6,495 pledges, according to the unofficial tally of Lifeline.PH posted on its Facebook account.
 
This includes 3,548 in the PUP; 787 in QC Circle; 531 in La Union; 602 in Naga City; 536 in Davao City; and 491 in Tuguegarao.
