Stretch marks: why do some people get it and what are the remedies for it?


Ah stretch marks, while more and more people are becoming accepting of their stretchies, there are others who still feel conscious about having them.

According to Dr. Jean Marquez, dermatologist for "Pinoy MD", stretch marks are scars of our torn dermis or the skin’s inner layer.

 


“The skin actually has elastic fibers,” Dr Marquez begins, “pagka binabanat mo ito, bumabalik siya dapat, parang rubber band.”

Stretch marks occur when these elastic fibers get pulled too much that they split apart. That usually happens during pregnancy, or when a person gains weight. As such, stretch marks become evident in new mothers or those who’ve lost a lot of weight.

Thankfully, stretch marks don’t put you at risk for any complications.
If you’re one of those who still feel self-conscious about having stretch marks, there are two things you can do:

1. Rubbing aloe vera on the affected areas. Aloe vera can help in skin regeneration. When the skin’s been ripped, it can help it heal better and faster.

2. Rubbing sliced lemon. Lemon has acidic properties that can help remove scars, which is  what stretch marks essentially is!
