Stick to ‘It’s More Fun in the Philippines,’ DOT urged

A senator on Tuesday urged the Department of Tourism (DOT) to stick to previous campaign slogan “It’s More Fun in the Philippines” amid criticisms on the “Experience the Philippines” advertisement campaign.

“Let us stick to It’s More Fun in the Philippines kasi mukhang nakatatak na ‘yun eh. Walang mangyayari satin na every time there’s a change in administration eh papalitan din natin,” Senator JV Ejercito said in an interview with reporters.

“Kung maganda na, nakatatak na ito, let us continue using it, huwag na palitan. Kahit papaano nagkaroon na ng recell,” he added.

The new ad campaign of DOT received criticism after netizens pointed out its similarities with the Meet South Africa commercial from last year.

In an interview with GMA News TV, Department of Tourism Assistant Secretary Ricky Alegre made the distinction between the two ads.

While he did note the similar ending, he said that "the South Africa ad was about the tourist. Ours is about someone who is already residing in the Philippines, a retiree."

He emphasized that the "Experience the Philippines" ad, which is one of the four releases slated for the year, went through numerous processes and procedures to make sure the retirement slant is highlighted.
