Two Miss Universe 2017 candidates extend stay in PHL to visit Siargao

A couple of Miss Universe 2017 candidates haven’t had enough of the Philippines just yet.

While most of the queens who toured the country are preparing to fly home tomorrow, Miss Universe Canada 2017 Lauren Howe and Miss Universe Malaysia 2017 Samantha Katie James are staying to explore more of our islands and are gearing up to fly to the island of Siargao.

Tourism Undersecretary Kat De Castro said that the two women are making the trip after an invitation from Miss Universe Philippines 2017 Rachel Peters.

“Two of them will be staying behind, si Miss Canada and si Miss Malaysia, kasi ininvite sila ni Rachel Peters to go Siargao with her,” she said during an interview at the Women of Significance Gala Night on Saturday.

“Kasi nga they fell in love with Camiguin, so sabi nga ni Rachel na you know there’s this other island they can visit, which is Siargao,” she added.

Miss Universe 2017 Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, her predecessor Iris Mittinaere, and several candidates from the recently concluded pageant toured several islands of the Philippines this week, including Camiguin, Bohol, and Batanes.

De Castro said the ladies enjoyed their time here and that they already hope to return soon.

“Si Miss Universe Demi-Leigh, she wants to come back soon and we’ve been asked around here yung mga ibang girls pagbalik ba nila if we can help them out,” she said — AT, GMA News
