Toy poodle badly injured after being thrown out of car in Taguig

A toy poodle needed surgery for a broken pelvis after being thrown out of a car in the middle of Bayani Road in Taguig City, GMA 7 news program "24 Oras" reported on Friday.

The incident, which was video-recorded by YouScooper Miguel de Guzman, showed a yellow car speeding away after the dog was tossed out the vehicle. A following L-300 van meanwhile ran over the dog.

De Guzman immediately stopped his vehicle, and took the badly injured dog to a vet.

"Na-shock din 'yung aso. Tumingin siya sa paligid. Takot na takot eh. Ang bilis ng mga sasakyan so nag-worry ako na baka iyon ang ikamatay niya," recounted de Guzman.

"Nasaktan ako para sa aso," de Guzman said. "Kasi kahit ikaw naman kung itapon ka basta batsa somewhere. Sabi ng vet either surgery para mabilis mag-heal 'yung bone."

The poodle is now in the care of De Guzman, who named him "Goyo."

As Goyo was still on his way to recovery, several netizens pledged aide to help pay for the surgery.

File cases

Meanwhile, groups like People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) strongly urge the public to file cases against those who mistreat animals like Goyo.

"It will be a violation of the Animal Welfare Act. Unless people file cases against people who hurt animals, animal abusers will think that they can get a way with it," PETA spokesperson Rochelle Regodon said.

"Animals cannot speak for themselves. They depend on compassionate people to speak up for them," she added.

However, De Guzman had no intention of going after Goyo's owners. Instead, he offered them some advice.

"Bago ko mag-alaga ng hayop, be sure to commit kasi responsiblity 'yan eh. So kung ayaw mo na sa kan'ya, ipa-ampon mo na lang. Wag mo itapon sa daan. Basura nga bawal itapon sa daan, 'yun pa kayang may buhay?" he said. — Margaret Claire Lyug/DVM, GMA News
