BIR padlocks Chinese drugstore on tax violations

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) shut down a Chinese drugstore for failing to submit value-added tax (VAT) returns and report P3.8 million in sales. Him Guan Drug Store, which was registered under Kelly John Bana Deovilles, failed to explain and present evidence to dispute the BIR findings. The drugstore is located at the first floor of Meisic Mall in Binondo. More erring taxpayers in his district are on his desk waiting to be padlocked, Binondo revenue district officer Emir U. Abutazil said. “Unless they heed his advice and voluntarily comply, he will not hesitate to close or suspend their business operations," he said in a statement. BIR’s Manila regional director Arnel SD. Guballa said he would continue to implement the Oplan Kandado program “to the hilt until all taxpayers within his region learn to comply" with the requirements of the Tax Code. “Those who mend their ways will be fully assisted and treated like other good and compliant taxpayers," he said. Guballa also gave an acronym to comply with the requirements: BIR – Bookkeeping requirements, Invoicing requirements, and Registration requirements. - GMANews.TV
