Aquino assumes US companies to continue outsourcing

President Benigno Aquino III is hopeful that American companies will continue to outsource non-core businesses amid moves against the practice in US Congress and backed by US President Barack Obama.   At a press briefing Wednesday, Aquino noted that business process outsourcing is one of the country’s sunrise industries.   “At the end of the day, like any other country, America would want to make their companies more effective competitive, et cetera, and if outsourcing is one of the keys towards that, then I assume it will continue,” he said.   “… [H]opefully it will not change because that is one of our sunrise industries,” he added.                        US House Bill 3596 or the “Call Centers and Consumers Protection Bill” encourages American companies to farm out their non-core business within the US — a practice known as insourcing — and penalizes those dealing with overseas BPO.   Aquino believed Obama’s support for HB 3596 has something to do with the upcoming US elections.   “We have to take into account that this is election year, perhaps those are election-related statements,” Aquino said.   Asked if he has any plan to lobby against US bill, Aquino said not at this time.                               “Shall we say that at this present time, I am made to understand that this was an issue that was brought up during the last elections in America. And from that time, which was four years ago and up to now, the situation hasn’t changed, he said. — VS, GMA News
