BPI offers air travel rewards to cardholders

The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) is giving credit card users the option to convert their rewards points to air miles through a partnership with Philippine Airlines (PAL) launched Wednesday night. BPI cardholders can now redeem PAL’s Mabuhay Miles for a minimum of 5,000 points, equivalent to 1,000 miles. Domestic travel requires a minimum of 8,000 miles, which is equal to a roundtrip economy class ticket to Cebu or Kalibo. International travel requires a minimum of 15,000 miles, equivalent to a roundtrip economy class ticket to Hong Kong. Points earned by supplementary cardholders can also be converted to miles. According to PAL’s assistant vice president for product loyalty marketing Ria Carrion Domingo, cardholders who wish to convert their points to miles first need to sign up for the Mabuhay Miles program, which can be done online. Domingo told GMA News Online that their miles program allows them to compete with budget airlines. “The other budget airlines have no loyalty program, from what I know," she said. “This partnership is no small tie-up," said Ginbee Go, senior vice president and card banking group head at BPI. “Rather, it is the beginning of a more long-term relationship that will enable every Filipino’s dream to travel to more places around the country and around the world no longer impossible but very much reachable,” she added. Apart from the points conversion program, the BPI-PAL collaboration also extends to a Buy 1, Take 1 promo for local and regional destinations where those who book a flight with their BPI credit cards can avail of a second flight for the same route and service class at zero fare. "For today’s Filipinos, a vacation has become synonymous to travel. Less are the days when a vacation is simply staying at home...Both BPI and PAL hope to make this dream of travelling more more real to more Filipinos," Go said. She also noted that a BPI-PAL partnership has been eyed for several years. "Personally, this is a dream come true after three or more years. The partnership of BPI and PAL is a major goal achieved," Go said. — BM, GMA News
