GMA Network launches Northern Mindanao station

As part of GMA Network's aggressive regional expansion efforts, the company launched its Northern Mindanao station in Cagayan de Oro on Wednesday. GMA Northern Mindanao is expected to serve over 1,404,183 estimated television households. The station will cover parts of Bukidnon, Camiguin, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Bohol, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Compostela Valley, North and South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Zamboanga del Sur, and Maguindanao. It will be airing the much anticipated local newscast "Testigo Northern Mindanao" on February 5 as part of GMA’s late afternoon Prime Block. "Testigo" will be aired between fantaserye "Paroa" and the new afternoon soap, "Forever" starring Heart Evangelista, Geoff Eigenmann and Gloria Romero. GMA Northern Mindanao is the third originating TV Station launched by GMA Network in just eight months. The Kapuso Network launched two originating stations in 2012: GMA Ilocos and GMA Bicol. GMA invested over P70 million in state-of-the-art studio, technical operations center, satellite multi link microwave system and electronic news gathering equipment. "We consider this as part of our responsibility to viewers: to bring Serbisyong Totoo to them via the Kapuso brand of news, information and quality entertainment that they deserve, in wherever part of the country they may be." said GMA Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon in a statement. Ratings lead Meanwhile, in 2012, the Network has maintained its nationwide ratings advantage for the second straight year, according to data from the industry's leading ratings service provider, Nielsen TV Audience Measurement. From January to December 2012, GMA scored an average total day household audience share of 34.4 percent, outscoring ABS-CBN's 31.5 percent by 2.9 points, and TV5's 15.1 percent by 19.3 points. GMA's lead in the nationwide ratings was attributed to the strong performance of its morning and afternoon blocks. On the other hand, in the hotly contested evening block, GMA narrowed the gap from its closest competitor while increasing its margin over TV5. Three grand festivals Meanwhile, as the Philippines celebrates three of the country's grandest festivals this January, GMA Network goes full-blast by bringing its brightest stars and biggest primetime offerings to Aklan's Ati-Atihan Festival, Cebu's Sinulog, and Iloilo's Dinagyang. As part of the celebration of the Ati-Atihan Festival, widely known as the "Mother of All Festivals", homegrown talents Aljur Abrenica and Mark Herras graced the "Mutya Ag Lakan It Kalibo 2013 Grand Pageant Finale and Coronation Night." A "Kapuso Night" was also held during the festival featuring Kris Bernal, Louise de Los Reyes, and Mark Bautista. Cebu's most spectacular fete -- the Sinulog Festival -- was attended by a powerful "Indio" cast, led by Senator Bong Revilla. Indio is GMA's elaborate and most expensive epicserye to date. The other stars who attended the Sinulog Festival were Marian Rivera from the "Temptation of Wife," as well as Dingdong Dantes and Lorna Tolentino from the teleserye "Pahiram ng Sandali." On January 26, the Dinagyang Festival in Iloilo will be attended by "Indio" stars -- Revilla, Jennylyn Mercado, and Rhian Ramos during the Kasadyahan Parade. This will be followed by a Kapuso Mall Show. - Andrei Medina, VVP, GMA News
