Metro Pacific unit inks deal to operate, expand Western Mindanao Medical Center

The hospital unit of Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC) has signed a deal to operate and expand the 110-bed Western Mindanao Medical Center in Zamboanga City.

Subsidiary Metro Pacific Hospital Holdings Inc. recently formed a new wholly-owned subsidiary, Metro Pacific Zamboanga Hospital Corp., which signed on March 27, 2015 a long-term lease covering the land, buildings and equipment of Western Mindanao Medical Center, MPIC said in a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange Monday.

The 25-year-old Western Mindanao Medical will be renamed West Metro Medical Center.

The nitty-gritty of the lease and the official opening of West Metro Medical are subject to certain regulatory requirements.

Metro Pacific Hospital will install a new management team and infuse capital to complete a four-storey annex building and increase West Metro Medical's capacity to 190 beds – making it the largest private hospital in the Zamboanga Peninsula.

West Metro Medical is the ninth in Metro Pacific’s chain of private hospitals, the largest in the Philippines at 2,244 beds.

Other hospitals in the Metro Pacific portfolio are Makati Medical Center, Asian Hospital & Medical Center, Cardinal Santos Medical Center, Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, De Los Santos Medical Center, Davao Doctors Hospital, Riverside Medical Center in Bacolod, and Central Luzon Doctors Hospital in Tarlac. – Danessa O.
