Singapore's SSR C-Solar to build Clark Green City power plant

Renewable energy group SSR C-Solar Power Inc. is developing a solar farm under a P1-billion commitment in line with the Clark Green City master plan which was formalized on Wednesday.

Under a 25-year lease agreement with the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), the Singapore-based SSR C-Solar will put up and operate a solar-photovoltaic power plant as a source of renewable energy for Clark Green City.

The first solar panels are to be installed in a 25-hectare leased property. The initial target is to supply at least 10,000 households, primarily in Clark Green City, with the initial the 20-megawatt (MW) or 20,000 kilowatt output of the solar farm.

The construction will start in the last quarter of the year.

The project is the second largest in the country after the 50-MW solar farm in Calatagan, Batangas.

Group CEO Assaad Waidi Razzouk said SSR-C Solar is “committed to play a major role in building the Philippine clean energy infrastructure,” adding that the company is in the business “because of conviction.”

BCDA Manager for Business Administration Arrey Perez said the project is leading “the way in providing clean, sustainable power," noting that another 100-MW solar energy project is in the offing.

Solar power has been gaining awareness as a viable alternative that may address concerns such as supply, spending, and environmental impact, said BCDA President and CEO Arnel Paciano D. Casanova.

“We want to create a Green City that is unique using solar power as an alternative source of energy.  This partnership will be nurtured over the years,” he added.
