More Filipinos are less satisfied with work situation in 2017 —JobStreet survey

Job satisfaction among Filipino workers dropped this year due to the lack of career development and training opportunities, results of a survey by JobStreet.com said on Wednesday.

The Philippine Job Happiness Index dropped to 4.97 this year from the 5.25 in 2016, according to a survey conducted by JobStreet from July 31 to August 31 this year.

In Southeast Asia, the same Philippine index lags behind Indonesia's 5.27 and Vietnam's 5.19.

Malaysia followed at 4.65, Thailand at 4.55, Hong Kong at 4.45, and Singapore at 4.31.

"More and more Filipinos are looking for career development. They want to move forward in their chosen fields, but the lack of career development and training opportunities in their current companies seem to hold them back," JobStreet Country manager Philip Gioca said.

Respondents were asked what would make them happier in the next six months, a 33 percent a salary increase and 23 percent said they would like to resign and get a new job.

Those who said they were happy in their current job cited colleagues, work location, and company reputation as the top three drivers of workplace satisfaction.

"The results of this study serve as a wake-up call for companies who wonder why there is such a high turnover rate," Gioca said.

"Career development, training opportunities, and the management style of the company's leadership team are just some of the reasons why many Filipinos are unhappy in the workplace. It would be best if managers can get to the heart of why this is happening as each company's DNA is unique," he added. — VDS, GMA News
